Three In One

Yesterday (Nov 18, 2006) was a great day for me in terms of train spotting. I unfortunitly did get a migraine that day but, what I saw made up for it. It was about 2:00pm when my friend Walt and I set out in my Jeep to head down and over to the tracks. This particular area is about 45 minutes away from Louisville, Kentucky our starting point. This mystryious place is called Lyndon, Kentucky. Our primary mission was to head over to Anchorage, Kentucky which isn't far from Lyndon to see what was there. Well, I've never been there but, my friend Walt has been to Anchorage before though, he hasn't seen it in a real long time. We arrived in Anchorage at about 3:00pm. Didn't really see too much except for a concrete pad were HK tower originaly stood. We decided to go further down the line and ran into a CSX work train (commonly called a MOW train), sitting on one of their branch lines behind an industrial complex. Only one word can describe this one...Interesting. There were two pile drivers, and one really weird looking boxcar that had it's own special rolling door, which looked like a garage door instead of a standard steel boxcar door. It truley was a customized work train. There was also an interesting mother road slug set, that was the power of the train, one was a EMD GP30 and the other was a EMD GP40-2. Both of us retreved some shots of this unique work train. After that we decided to start heading home since we weren't seeing anything else. That was the wrong answer. Yes we started heading home but, only got about 3000ft before we pulled over. There was a Auto Carrier Train looking Northeast straight at us! So, we got out and took some pictures. However, it wasn't moving it was stationary for about 30 mins due to a restricting signal. So, we waited, then magic stated to happen! We heard a long horn, then looked the opposite direction and saw a Southwest bound manifest train, moving fast! On the head end was a GE Dash 840B ex NS now CSX, something I've never seen before. Some time had elapsed then started the Northeast train. On the head end was an ex Burlington Northern, now BNSF EMD SD70MAC or was it? It seemed to me as if it was an old Alco smoking up everything in sight. However, it was what I like to call a Wantabee Alco. Maybe BNSF should do something about it. Don't you think?
